Wed 15th Nov, Cantell School, Southampton
Seahawks travelled to the strong Southmapton Eagles and it wasn't really a contest. The Eagles were far too strong, inside and out for our injury-hit and exam-hit, team. Missing Nik, Jack to injury and then Peter and Henry to exams we travelled with only 8.
We started well, but with calls all going in one direction not helping us, from 7-4, it quickly jumped to 21-4 and the game was effectively over.
Although our offence saw a little more action in the 2nd, we still were giving away the ball too often, too easily, and D lacked the drive and determination that was required. 50-15 at the half.
The second half we decided to forget the scoreline and try and use the situation to practice and try to make things work, switch on and get things going. Although we had lost our heads, both with the scoreline and the refs, we gained a little composure and started to play a little bit more like we can. The quarter ended 18-10 and was looking more respectable, although again we only got one whistle in 10 minutes.
The final turn was much the same. On the night we were beaten by a much stronger team, one who would be looking at winning Div2, before 2 & 3 were joined to make a larger division. Although we didn't play our best basketball and let ourselves down a little, a stronger second half led to a more respectable score than it could have been.
It ended 33-87.
