And so the 2016-17 Season is over. School has broken up for the summer holidays and its time to reflect back on another successful year with the Seahawks.
We have had the best season in the Solent league, in reference to results and wins, with 4 wins (plus 1 win by default) which meant we finish a solid mid table 4th. The beginning of the year looked strong, but inexperience was not helping us. After the Christmas break we came back solid and rejuvenated and started to truly gel as a team. The first win, away to the Winchester Nets, was seriously fun. Led by Henry Cheng our offence was on fire and we commanded the game with ease. A month later we dominated rivals Southbourne at our place, then completed the double over them with a final minute run, with old alumni Josh Strongman hitting the winning basket. 2 days later we made it 4 wins, with a home with over the Nets. The final win, was by default, over the Predators, since they failed to re-organise the fixture. When they were docked points for it, we in theory jumped them in the league to finish 4th.
Although the junior squads didn't play any fixtures this year, they continue to grow from strength to strength. The age groups seem more solid than ever, and the future looks bright for Seahawks basketball.
The MVP trophy was picked up by Gabriel Angstwurm, who had captained the club through its finest year. He ended up with a great scoring average, whilst also leading the team from the top of the arc.
Junior player of the Year went (again) to Myles Rothenburg after another outstanding year, stepping up the senior level.
