Seahawks beaten inside by Southbourne

Tues 8th March

With a single rest day since facing the Jam, the Seahawks travelled to local rivals Southbourne Swamp Donkeys, at St Peters School.

With myself out due to a knee minuscus injury (suffered against the Jam), the Seahawks were a little small but never lacked the heart to hussle. However the Donkeys spotted the lack of size and continually went inside, exposing the weak baseline and finding easy baskets. At the offensive end, the ball was moving well, but with little penetration we were forced to fire mid to long range jumpers. On the stiff rims of St Peters court, they weren't dropping. When we did drive we found the space we needed. At the end of one it was 9-17 but by no means over.

In the second we started to find our rythmn more, and at 21-24 had made it a one possesion game. The usual stars were playing well, and finding the hoop, but Josh was again starting to show his touch and maturity. Hani was running well and playing with renewed confidence; a 3 point play from him and 2 free throws from Timo meant it was a 4 point game at the break. 31-35.

The third started well, with Gabe adding a 3 point play, and Luke a 3 ball, meant we cut it to 2 points. We traded baskets and when Rakhat got the break cut the lead to just a single point. 45-46; but they regrouped and as our shots failed to fgall, they got a 10-0 run before Hani ended it from the charity stripe. 46-55 at the end of 3.

AS the 4th approached we knew what we had to do but they found our weaknesses and got another run on us, brekaing our press and goinfg inside. From 49-58 it stretched to 51-71 as again our shots just failed to drop. Everyone fought to the end and kept running, but we couldnt cut the lead anymore, as thier PG Oakley, controlled and saw out the the game.

It ended 57-78.
