The BCS Seahawks returned from Christmas to immediately find themselves in the gym... but not playing ball, doing Mock Exams instead. This may or may not have been the reason for the teams lacklustre performance last night. Everyone was rusty and the crowd were non-existant, for the first time ever.
However, against a team we had previously lost to by 19 in the league, we knew with a better performance than last time we could put pressure on them and make it close. The first quarter we came our firing and I opened the account before Timo played his running game against the bigger, slower Warriors. We went 9-2 in the opening minutes forcing a Time out. But a couple of threes dragged them back in it, and it ended 13-12 after one.
New gap year student/teacher Luke Germon has been added to the roster and although with little time to gel into the team he was proving useful, but failed to find his shooting range. The offence was working, in that our screens were solid and players were getting free and getting looks, but we failed to find the rhythmn on our finishing and the offence became stagnant. Too many easy looks from 18ft didnt drop, and too many driving points werent taken. By the mid way through the second we were 16-24 down but it wasnt over and we needed to find the fire. Normally our crowd would bouy us on, but tonight they were lacking and our heads and hearts dropped as too many calls were missed or went against us. The half ended 19-34.
Try as we did to find any offence and get some things to drop, it wasnt to be. They kept using thier size to their advantage and put myself and Dan in foul trouble, (all be it with some dodgy calls) and getting easy looks. However it was the smallest guy on the court, Harry Warren who managed to stop the big 6ft5, 100+kg big man!
After 3 it was 31-57.
The final stretch was not much better although there was a little more dropping and a few extra whistles our way as we pushed to at least win a quarter, but it wasnt to be.
It ended 43 - 82.
