U14's Dominate Schools Tournament

Thurs 10th Dec, the U14's, led by Myles Rothenburg, travelled to Arnewood to play in the Christchurch Schools Tournament.

We first faced the home team, and it was clear from the off that BCS had them noted. Myles ran the offence brilliantly, with great ball handling, he controlled the game and got everyone involved. Glenn Boyce was finding space in the corners, James Horan was using his height inside and Charlie Bolton was running well.

The defence was strong and structured and protected the basket, leaving Arnewood stuck on the outside and putting up prayers. It ended 12-0.

The second game, against the strongest opponents, Highcliffe, led by regional player Charlotte. However, we soon had them rattled and with Myles again sending them this way and that, before finding his wide open team mates. Whilst their defence was clearly more organised that Arnewood, we still dropped 6 points, with great running by James Shave, before a fast break foul sent Highcliffe to the line, where one shot dropped to make it 6-1.

The final game was against Twynham. And with Mr Jones admitting the boys had never played before, it was hopefully a formallity; however a "put it up and hope" shot dropped to put Twynham in the lead. The boys kept their heads and didnt panic, and took the lead 4-2, before another Twynham shot dropped. But then the boys took control, training paid off, and they showed true class down the stretch to make it 10-4 by the end.

A great tournament with some great play. Its clear that this team will become a great solid unit. New players being added this year giving last years team more strength in depth. A great win.
