Ages are relevant to the 1st Sept, 2022. So anyone aged 11 or below is U12. It would not matter if you become 12 on Sept 2nd or after, throughout the season.
This is current Y6 and young Y7's. We, at this moment, can not accept any Y5's due to restrictions in the age groups that can mix (unless they are actually Y6 age and are a year below). We "could" make exceptions if a player is sufficiently sized enough to be able to cope with 14yr olds who they would mix with, but its unlikely.
U14 - aged 13 or below on Sept 1st, 2022.
U18 - We are not strict on this. We are looking for ALL school / college players and pupils, or anyone who is taking a gap year. We accept that some players will be re-sitting a year of school to improve exams or language skills, that does not matter. However, we will not accept anyone in University or Higher Education, as it is our ethos to give the best opportunity for school aged players.
Monday 25th Apr - NO Training due to BCS Inset
Thurs 28th Apr - Normal times.
Monday 2nd May - No Training - Bank Holidays.
Thurs 5th - Normal Times
Monday 9th - Normal times
Thurs 12th - Normal times - last session.
Monday 16th - Exams Start.
June 28th - Exams End: We may hold more trials and sessions after exams or through the holidays if we can gain access to the hall.
September 1st - New Season Training Starts!!!
What we expect - Commitment is Key. We want players that want to be there and want to play and want to learn and improve.
From Aged 11, just an excitement to play is foremost. Some basic skills are a bonus, but not necessary, if the willingness to learn is there. Athleticism and basic fitness is also key.
U14 we are looking for that little bit more in the fundamentals. Basic dribbling, lay-ups, shooting and defensive awareness.
For the "Juniors" we are looking for 25 players as a maximum in sessions to fill both U12 and U14 teams. Due to this there must be a "selection process" and although we aim to never turn anyone away, who is keen to play, we may have to.
ALL AGES - Players should always aim to arrive, ready to play, with appropriate clothing (shorts not tracksuit bottoms!) and appropriate footwear. A friendly approach is key, introduce yourself and get stuck in. We know it can be a nervous time for young players and accept mistakes happen - we won't cut you for missing a shot!
Don't try to Show Off. Coaches have been playing for long enough to recognise showmanship over team play!
U18s - we are looking for a good solid skill set, dribbling and shooting are key. Size and strength are a bonus, but can always be beaten by athleticism and a will to achieve. The Seniors are split into 2 squads, "Seniors", and "Development". The Seniors are playing, literally, against men in the Dorset League. This isn't for the faint hearted. [due to this, females are not eligible for the Senior team]. We will be pushing for every session to be the best team we can be. We expect work on your game outside sessions. In sessions we expect full commitment to the Seahawks and winning.
Development is more for players [male or female] who are still looking to push and win, but need that little bit more than a school environment can. We play in the U18 Dorset League. And still want to win that!!
Players can move up, and down between squads throughout the season, if one player is showing they has the skill set to compete in the seniors we will discuss that with you. If one player is not showing the level required to play in Senior League, we will give you minutes in the U18 League.
We are now, for the first time, a "selective" club. This means there is a Trials process and criteria need to be met. We are looking at expanding with more coaches, more hours in the hall, and more sessions to support as many players as we can. But at this time we have a limit of 35, over both squads. (circa 15 Senior, 20 Dev.)
We are also looking to run a fun, recreational basketball session, open to all, with no coaching, just "pay-to-play" but this needs to be confirmed. This would be suited to those who want to play ball, but are not worried about a competitive environment. It would also be for players who may not "make the cut" in initial trials but need more court time. It gives you a space to show coaches your ability. The sessions would be covered by the Seahawks coaches, as a fun environment to play, ask questions and learn, with less of the drills and skills we would expect from team members.
COSTS - All costs for the current 2021-22 season are outlined in the "About" section of the website, as well as other information. Clearly all costs are changing for 2022-23, as overheads (like fuel to games) increases. But we are trying to keep costs to parents and players to a minimum where we can.
