SEAHAWKS WIN!!!

Tues 8th Feb.

Seahawks started the week with a good U17 win over Poole Piranhas. The Piranhas were unbeaten in the DBA Junior League, but playing against our ever-improving Development team. The Seahawks took them down a peg, with a show of class and all round strength, with guards working hard up front and bit guys doing the damage underneath, with Harry and Christian grabbing around 20pts each, in a 48-26 win.

The school U18's backed it up with a fairly cruisey win over Arnewood School, 57-42, with captain Tobias Strongman with a bunch of points playing through illness.

Then the big one, Seahawks vs Blazers in the DBA League...

We travelled to New Milton with a few players missing, but our strength in depth showing through. Although we actually started fairly slow, we eventually got going, and strong defence held them to just a few points, mostly from the line, as we claimed a 20-9 lead after 1, with Rhys doing a load of damage on the run, with 10points in Q1. Andy Foster adding a swish on the buzzer too.

The second was more of the same; we had a commanding lead, holding the Blazers to forced shots, whilst turning up our offence and getting buckets. Harry doing some damage underneath, on offence and defence, but just missing his breakaway dunk! [would have been Seahawks 3rd ever game dunk!] Although we can admit our range shots were off, on the low rims, we were getting the scoreboard to tick over like we can. 36-21 at the half.

Our offence dried up a little in the 3rd, although the ball was moving well, it just wouldn't drop. Blazers started getting a few shots, and then got very lucky with a couple of 3's to cut into our lead, 45-39. But we knew we had the quality to get the job done with only really Foley doing any damage on offence, as he had 26pts on the evening, all from close range. The 4th was a close affair, as Blazers cut the lead to just 2 at one point, before we got the run to take it back out to 10. A tight final minutes after J.Oakley hit a 3 for the Blazers, but Seahawks played super slow offence holding the ball, and Mason hit a 3 for us to put the game to bed. SEAHAWKS WIN 60-55!!!

Harry Midgley picked up the MVP honours for his 15 points, and numerous rebounds and solid D.

[ Scorers: Cherrett 17, Midgley 15, Bazeley 6, Wood 4, Reeves 4, Lee 2, Johnson 2, Foster 2, Funganjera 2, Thomarel 2, ... *every player scored]

[Blazers: Foley 22, Oakley 13, Charlton 6, Franklon 6, Cole 2, Moore 1, Scott 1]

On reflection, of course we are super happy with the win, but the score really flatters the Blazers. We had control for the majority of the game, just letting them back in towards the end. We played good team basketball, with everyone doing the work, but it was Rhys and Harry who kept us scoring, whilst others can admit shooting was off, myself included. Defensively we played well, and understood the Blazers had one big and one guard, to sort out; the rest are of limited threat. We know that in a few weeks when they visit us, we will have more space to run on the bigger court, with our speed to our aid, our own hoops to shoot on and we know the support will be as loud as ever.

Next up Classics at home. Can we play like we did in the second half vs them away?? Can we continue the winning run?
