To create more chances for everyone, the plan is to split Monday Senior session into 2 "squads". Development and Team.
At this time there are some players who are more ready than others to be playing senior fixtures, and some players who need a little more time to develop before entering games. We also recognise that some players are getting more court time each training session than others, and that shouldn't be the case. Everyone has the right to play and train.
The squads will be fluid weekly, with coaches assessing the previous week and upcoming fixtures. A team of 10, plus 2 reserves, will be announced here, over the weekend for the weeks game.
Anyone can be promoted, Anyone can lose their spot.
The reserves will be training with the team, but not travelling to the game or playing, unless another player fails to show.
We may also select the odd player during a session to stay until the later session, if we think they have improved enough and shown they deserve it.
So each Monday, the first section will remain basically the same with players ALL warming up, working on fundamentals together (like we've been doing with shooting games, lay-ups, jab steps, Vcuts etc). Then the talk through section where we introduce a new concept or build on before playing, however the "Development Squad" will get the priority of playing and running that section. This gives a greater chance for Developing players to show their skills to coaches and gain confidence with time on the court.
The Team selection may be removed into Rm40 for videos, or talk about the upcoming games or go to the Gym for Conditioning work, but more likely sit and watch the others, and aim to mentor the players in their position by Positively encouraging their team-mates... Note: we can easily remove Team players if we feel they are not embracing the WHOLE team!
At 7:15pm, (or at a convenient time) the Dev. squad will move aside and the Team will take to the court to work more in depth on the weeks ideas. Dev. squad are encouraged to stay and watch and learn, remembering that you may need to know those plays and moves in future weeks. [Again, sitting and learning, or you may be asked to leave]. But you are welcome to leave at 7:15 if needed and will not be penalised for it.
Thursdays will generally remain the same... however when we have home matches they start at 7:45.
So again there will be a Whole team warm-up, and then the Team will leave at 6/6:15 to eat and chill, and prep for the game. The Dev squad will then have the court until 7pm. The whole squad is encouraged to stay and watch and support the team for home matches. Remember 2 will be picked to do the table officials.
7pm the court closes for 20mins to set up and clean.
7:20pm Team returns for Warm Up.
7:45pm Tip off.
