Training sessions now finished until September 6th.
I will aim to post something each week to have a look at, be it a Physical work out, Jump exercises (check out 'Vertical Jump Centre' on Insta.), Set play ideas, or Coaching thoughts.
Everyone, including myself, can work on our game, and taking 8 weeks off will not help. Keep dribbling the ball. Keep shooting if you can find a hoop. Pick a single skill you could work on, and watch Youtube drills and skills. Go for a run and stay fit and healthy. Whatever you choose, work hard and be ready to return stronger.
The DBA League will be tough. At this time, there are a few who just aren't ready, and as coaches we have to make that decision.
So, the first weeks of September will be TRIALS. We will aim to put players through their paces, basic skills, drills and fitness. The numbers will be higher, we have players on the waiting list and emailing all the time. We will be recruiting more, so be ready to play hard for your spot.
The aim is to split the seniors into 2 smaller groups, "Team" and "Development". This means we can concentrate and target certain areas for more individual coaching. These will be 'fluid' week to week, meaning you can move up, or down. The "Team" will be a selection of around 12 players who will be playing in the fixture that coming week. We'll look a little closer at the in-and-outs of plays and ideas, with a thought to the matchups we face that week. The "Development" squad will work a little more on skills based and concepts to help push you to break in to the team selection. We will also use the DBA U17 competitions, as well as organising school matches and friendlies, as learning grounds for those with less experience; so there is game time available for everyone.
