The Seahawks travelled to New Milton Blackhawks on Sunday afternoon to face the Blackhawks for the early top spot of the league. Blackhawks had come off a close win over Donkeys and having watched the game, knew it was the big guy we would have trouble with.
We started solidly, matching the Blackhawks play for play and some solid zone D kept them out as best we could, but 6'9" Zeke Dunford was a tall ask for our inside guys. It was 14-14 after 10mins.
The second was a similar affair, trading baskets as we shot well, and better ball movement kept us in the game, however we realised that we were playing on our merit and skill, and just playing the game, rather than working together to get a solid lead we could rely on. Yera, Boris and Adam were doing all they could to stop Zeke, but their guards just kept finding him inside. It was 33-28 at the half and we were still in the game.
In the 3rd we knew we had to try something different to cut and take the lead, as we couldnt just trade baskets all game. However the man-to-man D was slow to adjust and players were left open, and our offence then took the brunt as we got frustrated. The Blackhawks won the quarter 21-10 and the game was getting away from us at a 16pt lead.
We tried as we could during the last stretch, but lost Yera to fouls (some dubious calls) and switching back to zone stemmed the flow a little, but it ended 73-49 to Blackhawks.
