Thurs 17th May,
The Seahawks hosted top of the table Eagles, in a match that threatened to be as on-sided as the away leg; with players missing to illness and exams, we were down to just 7 players, but each was ready to give their all.
In the first quarter the Seahawks were firing, good ball movement and good penetrative driving was getting us good looks at the hoop and open shots. Josh and Peter were again combining for points, with Gozim and Yera working hard on the defensive end for the stops. Offensive rebounds were great, and we generated points off second and third chances and kept us solidly in the game. Where as the Eagles looked disjointed and frustrated by the sudden improvement from the Seahawks, that their game was dropping. At the half it was 28-31 and a close encounter that had the Eagles arguing in their huddle.
However, after a quick start from us, cutting it to 1point, we went seriously quiet. The shots that had previously rolled, now didn't drop, the lay-ups and breaks weren't falling our way and some scrappy poor turnovers meant that our offence just stopped, whilst the Eagles picked up momentum and showed their skill and experience. With the deficit now at 18points, we finally stopped the rot by adding another basket, but the game was put to bed. Seahawks never gave up and kept fighting. Benno hit a 3, followed by Yera, to give us some bonus points towards the end and make the scoreline a little more respectable for the amazing play in the first half.
It ended 41-68.
